Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008

The Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008 Act (known as the CPRs) is extensive and impose an obligation on individuals and business to avoid unfair commercial practices – including aggressive or high-pressure sales tactics. Schedule 1 of the Regulations identifies a 31 practices that are deemed “unfair”. These include specific practices relating to codes of conduct, advertising, after-sales service, pyramid selling schemes, closing-down sales, product claims which are false (for example, those that claim to cure illnesses), and misleading offers involving prizes or free items.
