Former New Zealand cricket captain and Barrister Acquitted

1 Dec 2015

Chris Cairns has been acquitted at Southwark Crown Court on 30th November 2015 as has his former barrister, our client, Mr. Andrew Fitch-Holland.

Giles Bark-Jones and Peter Finbow from Bark&co acted for Mr. Andrew Fitch-Holland (Criminal Barrister)

Mr. Fitch-Holland and Mr. Chris Cairns (the former New Zealand cricket captain) had been charged with doing an act tending and intended to pervert the course of public justice in relation to their successful libel trial against Lalit Modi.

In 2010 Lalit Modi, the former head of the Indian Premier League cricket tournament, tweeted that Cairns had been involved in match fixing. Cairns in response successfully sued Modi for libel which was the first ‘Twitter’ libel trial to be heard in England

We instructed Jonathan Laidlaw QC of 2 Hare Court and Mr. Jonathan Polnay of 5 King’s Bench Walk.
