Our Best-In-Class serious crime lawyers who specialise in high profile national and international high profile serious crime cases, are acting for an individual charged with helping the notorious prisoner and former British soldier Daniel Khalife in his Prison Break Case Prosecuted Under The Counter Terrorism Division.
AK is charged with assisting an escaped prisoner and with possessing a phone inside a prison without authority. The case is factually linked to a spying case and is being prosecuted by the counter-terrorism division due to background knowledge, but is not a terrorism case within the terrorism protocol.
On 6 September 2023 Khalife escaped from HMP Wandsworth where he was being held on remand for offences including spying. He was recaptured on 9 September 2023.
His escape caused worldwide headline new. Khalife began a trial for charges including the escape in October 2024 and mid-trial changed his plea to Guilty for the escape after giving evidence in which he admitted the escape, and to being helped by others by receiving money while on the run. In November 2024 Khalife was found guilty of spying and terrorism offences, for which he awaits sentencing.
AK was in Wandsworth with Khalife and is alleged to have directed others to assist Khalife by use of an illicit phone inside Wandsworth. The role of the second defendant was to follow instructions sent to him by AK to meet Khalife in the evening of 6 September, take him to a cash point, withdraw £400, and give it to Khalife. Khalife was then able to buy a cheap phone and other items that assisted him in evading police for a further 3 days.
